Whicher is hired by Sir Henry Coverley who thinks his wife, Lady Jane is cheating on him. In a nearby village, Whicher tracks down Lady Jane's lover and needs to know what his intentions are. Mrs Piper takes on another lodger back home in London, making Whicher jealous.
